Nigeria, the most populous country in Africa, has embarked on a historic transformation by reinstating a “New Nigeria National Anthem”. This significant decision, announced in 2024, marks a symbolic return to the country’s roots and national identity.

Prior to this change, Nigeria’s national anthem had been one composed by a foreigner, reflecting a different era in the country’s history.

The reintroduction of the previous anthem, originally written by Nigerians, aims to reinforce patriotism and the values deeply embedded in the nation’s culture and history.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Nigeria’s current leader, issued the directive to officially reinstate the original national anthem. This decision underscores his administration’s commitment to fostering national pride and unity. As of now, all institutions, including schools, government establishments, and events where the anthem is traditionally recited, are required to adopt the reinstated version.
